Indigenous participation in midwifery is important.

With an understanding that Indigenous learners can face specific barriers or challenges when pursuing higher education, schools and programs within McMaster’s Faculty of Health Sciences have facilitated admissions streams for applicants with Indigenous North American (First Nations, Inuit or Métis) ancestry. This process is intended to provide equitable access to Indigenous applicants and aligns with the intent of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action.

To participate in the Facilitated Indigenous Application Process (FIAP), please:

• Complete the Supplementary Indigenous Self-Identification Process through the Indigenous Students Health Sciences Office, see more information below.
• Indicate you wish to participate in the FIAP in your online application to the MSc Midwifery Program by selecting Yes to Question 5 in the Program-Specific Questions section of your online application.

More information on the Supplementary Indigenous Self-Identification Process

The Supplementary Indigenous Self-identification Application is an Indigenous-led process let by the Indigenous Students Health Sciences Office (ISHS). The FIAP self-identification application is submitted to McMaster’s Indigenous Health Task Force through the online application housed on the ISHS Office website. Incomplete applications past the program(s) admission deadline will not be considered.

The online application requires applicants to provide:

• A letter of consideration
• A declaration of ancestry
• A letter of recommendation
