McMaster continues to rank among Canada’s top universities in latest Maclean’s rankings
For the sixth consecutive year, McMaster has ranked among the top medical universities in Canada in Maclean’s annual university rankings.
McMaster ranked fourth in the Medical Doctoral category, which measures the performance of higher education institutions that offer a medical school as well as broad range of PhD programs and research. These rankings are informed by five key areas: students, faculty, resources, student support and reputation. The scores in these areas are based on 12 weighted performance indicators, ranging from student awards and scholarships to library services and research grants.
With exceptional scores in five of the weighted performance indicators, McMaster’s ranking is driven by a nation-leading performance in student services, as well as strong showings in medical and science grants (second in Canada), total research dollars (second in Canada), library acquisitions (second in Canada), and institutional reputation (fourth in Canada).
“At McMaster’s Faculty of Health Sciences, we are dedicated to educational excellence and driving innovative research through interdisciplinary and collaborative learning,” says Dean and Vice-President, Paul O’Byrne. “This recognition is a reflection of our position as a leader in health education, research and training, and celebrates our commitment to shaping the future of health care in Canada and around the globe.”
The Maclean’s rankings of individual programs identified McMaster’s Nursing program as fifth overall in Canada. The publication is the latest to highlight McMaster’s consistent position among the best nursing programs and medical schools in the world. Earlier this year the QS World University Rankings by subject ranked McMaster’s Nursing program among the top 25 in the world, and the Faculty of Health Sciences among the top 40 in Medicine.
In addition to these rankings, McMaster also ranked 33rd in the world for global impact in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. The university also ranked among the top 100 universities in the world for the 20th year in a row in the Shanghai Rankings.
