Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance Approves New Graduate Program in Midwifery
McMaster University will be home to Canada’s first graduate program in midwifery.
The Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance (OUCQA) approved the Midwifery Education Program’s proposal for a Master of Science degree in midwifery on Friday. The new program is founded on the major attributes of advanced midwife practitioners, including autonomy in practice, leadership, expertise, and research skills. Graduates will be prepared for roles such as clinical and professional leaders, educators, researchers, and clinicians with specialized advanced clinical skills.
The primarily online program will provide practising midwives with with the flexibility to complete the program while continuing to work and without having to relocate. Both a course-based and a thesis-based option are available, further adding flexibility and customization for students.
